From the first episode, it very much seems to be the story-driving trope, yes. I also couldn't decide if the CGI was pretty good for a TV series or incredibly bad by today's standards - they are quite good at fur, but the bluescreen scenes are painfully obvious and the architecture is just bad.

She's also unbelievably athletic, strong, agile and combat-savvy after having been locked up in a tiny room for a long time, but I guess it's wrong to expect realism from an Alice adaption.

But I kind of liked the Knave of Hearts, so I'll give it another chance for one or two episodes.
