Chiming in to disagree that Dean is a "redneck". He's more blue collar hero (I know you're not USian, but the distinction is pretty big to us, lol). One implies smart but uneducated, and good with his hands, and all the shit that Dean is that conservatives currently romanticize (or, like, the protagonist to a Bruce Springsteen video, even though Bruce Springsteen legit gets upset when conservatives try to use his music, lol). But "redneck" implies just... total ass backwardness, stupidity, and a truly rural, and usually impoverished, upbringing (rather than smalltown or on the road).

Not that the stereotype is nice or anything I endorse, but that's the best way I can put the difference into words.

The Bruce Springsteen reference is basically perfect for explaining what Dean's all about and all the distinctions that people are trying to make. Excellent post.
