... I think you are overthinking it. Way, way overthinking it.
Especially by bringing up the car thing because there are a lot of people who like old cars.
I really can't see how that would relate to politics - I mean, what's next? I do ballroom dancing, does that tell you who I'd vote for?

Moreover, Dean being stuck in the past has never been portrayed as a good thing (as far as I remember anyway)

I am European, so perhaps I am missing some subtext, but I spotted some intentional digs at your conservatives (like Sarah Palin being president in 2014 when things go to Hell, or Charlie Bradbury stealing funds from a Republican candidate).
I mean, I wouldn't call that subtle and frankly I wish the writers had left them out entirely.
