IDK, my ex-gf's family are a bunch of self-identified redneck as fuck people who love science fiction/fantasy, pop culture, and the women are all into various forms of Wicca. Somewhat cognitive dissonancely (it's totally a word), they are also pro-life and conservative, the whole clan lives on a big chunk of land in a bunch of falling apart trailers, and most of the other things you'd associate with rednecks....

... but they also had 0 issue with my married gf introducing me to the family as her gf. Their reaction was "Well, we were wondering when you were going to tell us you liked girls". For the time I was with my ex-gf&bf, I was completely accepted as part of the family. (That relationship was all sorts of fucked up but V's family was awesome. They remain the only "in-laws" of any partner I've been with who have been completely accepting.)
