Depending on who OP is talking to, I imagine a response spectrum of "lol fag" to "lol trying too hard to be sensitive and/or impress the women." As another guy, I've heard the both a lot from every gender, enough for me to stop mentioning certain things, so I can see why

You can enjoy more than one genre. You can even enjoy a song in a genre yet not enjoy that genre. Your favorite artist/song does not need to be in your favorite genre.

I don't think OP is saying you can't? It sounds to me like people around OP would mock him or something for liking this particular genre. Which is generally considered a feminine thing to like in a lot of circles (not saying I agree but that other people think so)

It seemed like OP was saying he/she can't like the singer because it is not in the classic rock genre (their fav).

I thought it was implied that this was their fave since he said he only "claims" classic rock is his favorite

And I think we can safely say it is a "he" and not a "he/she" because he describes the kind of guy he'd like to be

and let me just say (I'm not sure this is what OP is afraid of, but I want to say it anyway) that the urge to define oneself as a person of taste and intelligence by reacting against and mocking pop things is extraordinarily snobbish, and dumb, and also incredibly boring, especially when it comes to pop music, and I wish people would stop doing it. The youtube comment page "Like if you're listening to this in 2013! Why don't they make good music anymore instead of crap like Justin Bieber?" school of music criticism.

Seriously. I generally don't like top 40s music, and I'm way into metal and punk (though I listen to almost everything), but nothing gets me more growly when someone is like "LOL HORRIBLE TASTE IN MUSIC EVERYONE WHO LISTENS TO [Artist (Miley Cyrus is who I've seen lately)] IS THE REASON MUSIC SUCKS TODAY." I find it especially happens when people listen to what I consider really horrible music.

For some reason I've never been able to fathom, Jason Mraz has been the butt of a running joke where he's an amoral sociopath with no regard for human life.

"I smell like Jason Mraz at an afterparty"
"I've not seen such a blatant disregard for human life since I toured with Jason Mraz!"

I... I can't see that at all. He always came across to me that he was this totally amiable stoner with a great voice and interesting/varied songs.

I feel like, "I listen mostly to classic rock but that Jason Mraz guy is pretty cool too," is something I would be able to say out loud with perfect impunity. But I don't hang out with irrationally judgmental people. So maybe the comments you should be expecting from this thread would be along the lines of, "Get new friends."

he came to ball state a few nights ago and he was actually fucking incredible. funny too. it was a great show, one of the best i've seen and i work at a concert venue so that's saying something

...wha? I don't want to live in a world where people are ashamed to love Jason Mraz. :(
