I do agree somewhat. I do think that in fandom, by both het or slash fans, romantic relationships are often placed over good friendships - and I think great friendships are a great and important thi, especially in media aimed at younger audiences.

And some people do have their slash goggles permanently on.

But then, I find shipping to be harmless, unless you get those crazy fans who insists you're just blind to the fact their couple of choice is truly, deeply in luv!

I don't see anything wrong with shipping or slash and I'm not convinced that every close pair of guys are totally in love, but that doesn't mean I won't still ship them sometimes.

Friendship fic is awesome and there should be more of it, but tbh fandom has always seemed to revolve more around romance.

"I do think that in fandom, by both het or slash fans, romantic relationships are often placed over good friendships."

Yes. I think this happens in canon and in the media itself, too: this idea that romantic/sexual relationships are more important or more "real" than platonic friendships, the idea that character-development always has to happen via romantic relationships, etc. There's almost this message that same-gender friendships are something for children, and that the "next step" in anyone's progression through life is romance/marriage, as if that's an upgrade or a higher level, somehow.
The phrase "just friends" is awfully dismissive and condescending. Sometimes the help and support of a good friend can make all the difference in someone's life.
I like slash as much as the next person, but the idea that emotional or even physical closeness is always sexual, is far from healthy. That comes from a pretty prudish and backwards mindset, IMO.

...really? Do you think slashers have no friends, or want to bang all of them?

...um...AYRT didn't say that...

...like, at all.
tbh, this reply is confusing me.
