I don't think anybody's saying that every time two dudes are close, they must want to dick each other. It's more like when two dudes are close (or straight-up co-dependent), there's nothing wrong with the suggestion that they might want to dick each other and it's kind of bizarre to act like The Dirty Gay ruins the beauty of male relationships or something. Interpreting a tight male/female friendship as romantic doesn't produce nearly the same level of "I CAN'T HEAR YOU LALALALA" panic as applying the same perspective to two dudes.

That said, the fandom backlash of "if you can't see the clear vibrating lust between these two friends you must be either blind or homophobic" isn't remotely right, either. There is no power in this universe that will make me get Sterek or Destiel, and it's damn sure not because my slash goggles are loose.

I totally agree- so many of these complaints have this annoying "but why does it have to be romance eww" subtext. I think the way OP has worded this secret does a good job of avoiding it.

I agree with this, as well. This is pretty much the whole basis for the existence of slash. I think both sides of this issue are valid. There's nothing wrong with seeing something sexual in the relationship of the characters, but the idea that all same-gender affection is sexual actually *inhibits* people from expressing affection IMO.
