(Anonymous) 2013-10-18 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)But I don't mind people writing close friends as lovers and exploring that. In my current fandom one male character is said to "complete and correct" another male character. I write them as best friends anytime I write them. I've also written things where they're in a romantic relationship. I like to read both interpretations. Both are, I think, valid. The most stable relationships, in my experience, start out as friendships. So if fandom is given two main characters who are very close and get by far the most screentime, as in several of the couples shown... I can't blame them.
There should be more of a variety of friendship shown in media, as others have said. One thing I love about Elementary is the close male-female relationship without sexual undertones. But it starts to sound a little off to me when you say "even the most accepting fans won't say that there's no possibility these guys want to get involved romantically".
I'd say the most accepting fans would be those who say they could be friends, they could be lovers, both are awesome and let's live and let live and all read and write what we like. Like, you know, the vast majority of responses to your secret have been doing.
