I tend to value friendships more than romantic relationships in my canon, but the way I look at it the canon already covers the male/male friendship aspect pretty well and is still often reluctant to consider a potential romantic angle between two male main characters particularly in genre shows even when it makes sense so I'm fine with fandom taking up the reins. Some fandoms may be a bit top heavy in favour of slash (and it is only some), but until canon gets better at that aspect I'm not going to complain too much about fandom being the place where people get to do that.
