Well, I don't care about Stark Trek, and I haven't watched Sleepy Hollow yet so I'm not shipping anything from those two to begin with, but I don't ship Joan and Sherlock because I prefer them as friends. That said, I preferred John and Sherlock from Sherlock as friends as well as Holmes and Watson in the RDJ version. It has nothing to do with Joan being a woman or a POC. I've just always preferred Holmes and Watson in a platonic relationship regardless of the version.

Also, I just think it's really cool to see a show where a guy and a girl are both leads and don't have romantic feelings toward each other.

I think accusing someone of being racist just because they don't ship an interracial couple is bizarre, but I do think we should examine why interracial ships tend not to be popular in fandom.

This. While I agree that calling everyone who doesn't ship interracial couples a racist is stupid, I can't help but be a bit leery because of this. Espescially since it is prevalent across a lot of fandoms. And it's not limited to fandom either. Remember the shitstorm over that adorable Cheerios commercial?

As a biracial woman, this shit kind of gets to me.

That one? It's frigging adorable. I had no idea it was controversial just because the parents are interracial. Some people :/

I know, right? I was incredibly happy when I saw it on my television. Then I got online and saw all the racist asshats come out in full force over it. Like how dare Cheerios show an interracial family! Ugh. Sorry for the slight rambling. It still kind of gets to me.

It's understandable. No apologies needed.

I love the smile on the little girls face just before she runs off. Mom should not be too surprised when she learned what the kid had done.

I love that commercial. It's really sweet.

IA so hard.

I haven't seen anyone call anyone racist over it. But the most passionate shippers for these couples tend to be WOC themselves because well, WOC are so often not presented as viable romantic interests in media.

Agreed. Or, for that matter, PoC/PoC ships (animanga and Asian drama fandoms excluded). I'm trying to think of any popular ones in Western fandoms and coming up with bupkis. I mean, maybe Ronon/Teyla in SGA? But they weren't really popular on their own; they were mostly just the background pairing in McShep fic.
