I'd say it sounds less paranoid and more dickish. Like, somebody can't handle the thought of anyone else not shipping their ships, so they accuse the non-shippers of racism.

Paranoia implies fear. These people are just assholes who never heard the story of the boy who cried wolf.

I don't ship Spock/Uhura but I do sometimes ship Scotty/Uhura. So I'm assuming that earns me a "get-out-of-race-wank-free" card. I mean, unless someone is saying I'm xenophobic against Vulcans. That would be interesting.

As for your actual secret, um, yeah, it's overdone. Sometimes things are motivated by bigotry and sometimes people just have different tastes. It's a complicated issue I feel a lot of people try to simplify into... black and white. :/ Pun really not intended there. I'm just unsure how else to say it.

Well, I don't care about Stark Trek, and I haven't watched Sleepy Hollow yet so I'm not shipping anything from those two to begin with, but I don't ship Joan and Sherlock because I prefer them as friends. That said, I preferred John and Sherlock from Sherlock as friends as well as Holmes and Watson in the RDJ version. It has nothing to do with Joan being a woman or a POC. I've just always preferred Holmes and Watson in a platonic relationship regardless of the version.

Also, I just think it's really cool to see a show where a guy and a girl are both leads and don't have romantic feelings toward each other.

I think accusing someone of being racist just because they don't ship an interracial couple is bizarre, but I do think we should examine why interracial ships tend not to be popular in fandom.

I've just been keeping my mouth shut about Ichabod/Abbie because I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. I don't ship it, but I think it's rude as fuck to post anti-ship things in the ship's tag. Which I've definitely seen. I'm happy to let my friends ship it and squee over it if I'm not there yet.

I do however ship Spock/Uhura and like Sherlock/Joan in fic even if I don't think I want it to be canon.

Ship it, don't ship it, no concern of mine. However, at this point, I've seen way too many people say that they don't ship it only to go on to attack the POC woman in question. It's like, "I don't ship it... and here are all of the reasons I don't like X." The real winner is when they say "I don't know why I don't like her, I just don't." It doesn't tell me they are a racist, necessarily, but it does tell me to be very wary.

You don't have to ship something to support the idea of a possible interracial relationship. This is what fandom does not get.

Not shipping a pairing =/= bashing or against the concept itself, or denying there is a possibility.

You like what you like, that's your own personal business, no one else's.

I was told that because I don't romantically ship Ichabod/Abbie I am supporting the desexualization of WoC and that's basically the point where I stopped giving even half a shit, because that is absolutely meaningless shit-babble. I know my ship preferences, and exactly zero of them have anything to do with race (gasp shock i even have other interracial ships involving WoC!!!! it's literally just this one thing i don't ship!!!). So people like that can just go right on outside and play hide and go fuck themselves.

Holy shit I hate tumblr sometimes. I just think Abbie and Ichabod have Amazing friendship chemistry and kick ass together and it is just so nice to see more platonic but close relationships between the opposite sex, and the fact that it's an interracial partnership is even more awesome! That being said, more interracial romantic relationships on TV would be great. I do ship interracial couples in fandom, just not this particular one. And now that makes me racist according to tumblr?

Agreed. I ship one of these pairings, am completely indifferent to another, and do not ship the third (but love their friendship). Does that make me semi-racist or is it just possible that one cannot make conclusions about whether someone is racist based on whether or not they ship one or two particular pairings?

Let's face it. When it comes to Sherlock/Joan, if you ship it, then you're homophobic because it apparently 'erases' the Sherlock/John ship. And if you don't ship it, you're racist because you're either consciously or subconsciously 'against' interracial couples.

Sure, not shipping any of these pairings doesn't make a person racist or sexist. However, if I see someone who ships more than a couple of pairings and they are all white males? I start to wonder about their views on race and gender. Especially if their reasons for not shipping the female characters and/or PoC are always along the lines of "they obviously have no chemistry", "the other characters are not well written", "that actress is bad", etc. If only the white male characters are well-written, well-acted, and have chemistry in your (general "you") mind, it does make me wonder.

Like the person on my flist who was arguing this same point about shipping preferences meaning nothing about them being sexist (also works for racist, though) whose ships were Kirk/Bones & Kirk/Spock (ST:2009), Shawn/Lassiter (Psych), Derek/Stiles (Teen Wolf), Sherlock/John (BBC Sherlock), Steve/Danny (Hawaii 5-0), and Tony/Steve (MCU). I'm not saying that person is racist or sexist, but...

Currently I'm in a fandom where two out of three of my white/guy/white guy pairings are interracial. They're just fantasy races.
