Actress no one seems to have heard of and who shares no resemblance to the character she's supposed to play is better qualified fir the job? Eh, you might need to try a little harder to convince us. (But do try.)

Not OP but the actress is closer in age to the character in the books. Emilia Clarke is almost thirty, Dany starts out in the series at age 13.

I think the essential problem with the secret, then, is that the actress as pictured doesn't really look any younger than Emilia Clarke. I mean, she's beautiful (and so is Emilia), but nothing about the picture shouts "young!" to me.

Okay then I definitely have concerns with OP's claim about her suitability. Just checked her filmography and the few roles she's had have all been kiddish, age-appropriate stuff. She might be good in them, I don't know, but would she have the emotional maturity to handle a role like Dany? Because Dany the character might be 13 but the shit she goes through isn't something you throw at an inexperienced child actor and expect a good performance.

Do you not understand the meaning of 'graphic'? Because the reason Emilia was hired to play Dany is exactly that they can't get away with casting an age-appropriate actress to do the scenes she's had.

That was part o fit although they also had to age the character up as well: Even if the actress is over 21, you still can't show certain things if the CHARACTER is supposed to be under a certain age.

Can you elaborate on that? What can't they show and how old the character needs to be?

I've not not been able to find where I read it (I've read quite a few articles in the GoT and ASoIaF wikis and random articles the past few weeks), but iirc because they were filming in Ireland (and had received funding) the characters Dany and Sansa (iirc) had to be "aged up" from 13 to 16 in order to be shown in sexual situations.

(I'm sorry I can't find it, but it did make an impression, that not only the actors themselves but also the stated age of the characters they were playing had to be at least 16.)

No. Sansa has some adult scenarios and is heavily threatened with rape, but a)she isn't and b)Sophie stayed entirely clothed. Arya is threatened, but not in a way that made me feel uncomfortable for the actress.

Also, they both seem like relatively level-headed kids. I know literally nothing about what the actress in the secret is like.

I'm pretty sure there was a reason why they aged Dany up. Because... I definitely could not have watched first season Dany if she was 13 - 15.

I don't think it's actually specified, but someone up above mentioned that the actress was 26.
