Can someone explain to me what they have said that's upset people so much? (I already know about the "I don't give a shit about adults" comment though, and think it's pretty obvious what he meant.)

Hmmm... maybe because they've gone a bit political? I know Hank got shit for believing in Global Warming and explaining the science behind it. There's probably other stuff. I haven't been paying close attention though.

Sigh, Tumblr. A couple folks on my dash have made like really vague references to off-putting comments that both Hank and John have made and how people who *they're* following have a really intense dislike of them? For... some reason? I mean, they obviously have their flaws, but they don't strike me as terrible people.

I feel the same as you. They're not saints but they're nice enough. I follow both of them on tumblr and haven't seen anything...um, bad? Maybe I missed something though. I haven't caught up with their actual videos so who knows? They do have a lot of backlash because they have a huge fanbase that is very prominent on tumblr. The "Make John Green find the thing" game is annoying at best but harmless overall.

Maybe one of the people they follow but I don't posted something I'm not aware of that caused a stir. If what the people who you follow are to be taken seriously, anyway.

I should also note that a lot of people forge John Green's tumblr onto random posts to make it look like he's said something so that also could be a problem.

Your best bet though is to ask the people you follow. If you're afraid to attach your name to the question try to do it anonymously.

I think some people in fandom are upset with John for being friends with Cassandra Clare?

That's the most recent thing I heard about but I make no effort at all to keep up with any kind of internet drama so I assume that's woefully out of date.
