Serious question. How do you know that they are actually, you know, "girl gamers"?

I know two people who do this. Neither are girls, or even going through tiniest gender identity questioning. They flat out said that they do it because they like the freebies and attention. One of them was utterly surprised that I hide my gender in gaming because I hate everything that they crave.
