I'm actually a little curious to see what the season will be like, Harmon will be back but we'll be missing Pierce and a bit of Troy (Troy is supposedly going to be in a few episodes?) I'm honestly not sad about Pierce but Troy not being there does raise a red flag to me.

Still, it could end up being good. And in any case it made sense for NBC to bring it back, Community is in syndication now and syndication is lucrative for networks, this is why sometimes shows that have been on for 3-4 seasons are more likely to be renewed then a show that has been on for 1-2.

Shows coming back midseason is nothing new either, and NBC really needed a comedy to come back considering how many shows they cancelled or ended. The amount of new shows coming out right now is ridiculous and hard to keep up with.
