Everything is 100% optional, of course.
Rules: No porn, guro gifs, auto-looping/playing embeds, etc. To avoid excessive scrolling, if you're going to link an image or gif in your post, keep it to 3 images max. (If you abuse this rule by posting something 10000px in height, I'm just going to delete your whole thread.)
Easy copy-paste:
Regular subs post for today (#356) is right below this one!
Regular daily post will be at the usual time!

Name/Handle: Kathy in real life. Or, you know, The Grumpy Old Broad
Age/Location: 58, Chicago
Fandoms: Doctor Who (and everything within the Whoniverse), BSG, Caprica (sniff), Farscape, a bunch of anime series (Last Exile, Cowboy Bebop, Gosick, Polar Bear Cafe, Bleach, Eve No Jikan, too many to remember), A Song of Ice and Fire, many, many SF and fantasy books (Zelazny, Bull, Brust, Pohl, Ellison), Haven, LotR, Buckaroo Banzai, comics, comic-based movies if they're Marvel. So yeah, I am a creature of fandom, rather than any one fandom.
What in fandom interests me: world-building, side stories, minor characters and what they do before and after canon adventures; filling in the gaps, relationships of all sorts, romance, adventure, mysteries - all with great plots. Plus loads of vignettes, crack, fluff, etc. So, basically, almost everything in fic. Fanvids of all types; art.
What in fandom does NOT interest me: Torture of any type, physical or emotional; noncon in emotional/sexual relationships; violence without plot relevance; character death without plot relevance; character bashing; poor grammar and spelling - if you care enough to write something, you should care enough to check for spelling and grammar. Some things in which I don't think I'd be overly interested; mpreg, or most pregnancy stories - and there, I've made exceptions because there are writers who could make me interested in gripping emotional stories of potholders bearing baby squirrels to parturition.
Major Non-fandom Interests: politics, poetry, family, journalism, weirdness, astronomy, protecting science, baking, rights for everyone, Indian food, making food from scratch; rock and roll, jazz, music-music-music.
My LJ/DW/tumblr/etc Contains Mostly: a judicious mixture of personal ramblings, fanfic (I write intermittently 95% within the Whoniverse); the occasional socio-political polemic; work and union stuff; videos I like; birthday greetings, fannish meta and faffing about.
Other: I talk too much. Or hadn't you noticed? Also? Canadian, reporter.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-20 01:14 am (UTC)(link)And god isn't that the truth. When I started reading fic I could solidly say I did not read X, Y, or Z, but at this point I think I've read just about anything solely due to amazing authors making it interesting and engaging despite my lack of interest in the topic. Authors are wizards I tells ya.

Dear lord, yes; sometimes the magic is skewed, but it's magic nonetheless.
