I'm late because I've been making pinata cookies.

They turned out really cool-looking and taste delicious, but damned if they didn't take a lot longer than I anticipated.

I think I've seen those! Are they the ones with three (or more) layers of cookie held together by icing, and the middle layer(s) have a hole you can put candy inside when you assemble them? Those looked awesome.

Those are the ones- and they are indeed awesome. Because they're for a Halloween party, I did mine in the shape of skulls, coffins, and jack-o-lanterns and in addition to normal candy 'treats' I also used a few 'tricks' like pop rocks and bug-shaped sprinkles.

The only negative is that because they're each three (well, two and a half) cookies stuck together, you get a much lower amount of finished cookies relative to the amount of baking you do. A premade mix bag's worth of dough only yielded about six pinata cookies for the larger cookie cutters, and seven or eight for the smaller ones.

I won't be in a hurry to fix them again anytime soon, but the end result was definitely worth it. They look great, the one I taste-tested was delicious, and I'm looking forward to watching people react to the surprise fillers.
