But anon.

A nomadic community with no stable jobs, education systems, police, or health systems is completely sustainable without crime or terrible outcomes because??

Hell if people want to leave that community it's easy because??

^this. Like, there's this country (with little ethnic diversity) I spent a considerable amount of time in, and then there's this ethnic community in another country. The quality of life in the first country is okay-ish (or at least used to be, seeing as the political side of the issue is becoming increasingly creepy), the situation with the ethnic community in the second country is rather problematic.

The difference? Clear as a day.

The problem is that they can't live that way anymore. A nomadic community outside of the main society was a realistic way of life a long time ago, but not in the current world.

There are romani in the Western Europe who have settled down, gone to school and decided to live among the main society. The Eastern Europe should be forced to provide for their romani community the same opportunities, so that they can stop traveling. But the romani can't cling to a lifestyle that just doesn't exist or work anymore.

Romani have left the caravan and went on to have productive lives before. They have gone to places like America and Canada. It's when they don't want to settle down or they want to take over a place and keep their way of life as business as usual that their neighbors have a problem with. Instead of when in Rome do as the Romans do, the want everyone to do what they do and except them warts and all without ever once adapting. That's counter-productive.

but even if you think that the romani culture and lifestyle is untenable, that's not in any way a justification for the kind of racism that gets passed around about them

The problem is bad shit really does happen when they are around. So pratically, you dont' want them around you. Why would you?

If you ever want to collect insurance on a car, just park it up next to a Traveler site or on a Roma occupied street. It'll be stolen and burned out within the hour. The biggest problem you'd have would be getting away from the car yourself without being mugged.
