I felt the same way too, OP. The Old Republic is my first venture into the world of MMORPGs, and personally speaking, the companion game mechanic is a godsend for someone like me (I have a fair bit of social anxiety, fwiw). It's not perfect, but it helps. Though I did recently join a friend's guild and have done a couple missions with them, and they were pretty enjoyable. But I always feel like a bundle of nerves afterward. D;

That said, I echo the above anon and just jump in and give it a try. Most MMORPGs are F2P these days (albeit with limited features), so even if you don't have a whole lot of features at your disposal, giving it a quick shot might be good. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, et all.

Oh man I love the companion part of SWTOR. And the cutscenes. It feels like you're actually in a story. The Star Wars universe has a lot of potential as a setting for an MMORPG - you get sick of "orcs, elves & humans" after a while.

The only thing that annoys me with SWTOR is the crafting.
And EA.

Yeah, I just started playing TOR as well, and the few group missions I did were fun, everyone was nice but it was really stressful. It would ruin my enjoyment of the game if I tried to play in a group all the time.

SWTOR is the only MMO I've ever gotten super far with. I thought it was just the Star Wars appeal, but I think it's the companion, because I can solo. I really have been harassed online too many times to want to group with strangers.
