Dr. Watson from Sherlock Holmes. When I was young, I was all about Holmes, because he was so smart and cool and everything. It was only later, when I had a more critical eye for the mechanics of writing, that I realized how much of the charm of the stories comes from the way Watson writes them. The guy is pretty awesome in other ways -- there are so many little things he does that he is too modest to call attention to, and most of his wrong answers are actually very good practical Occam's Razor suggestions that serve to show Holmes the little flaws in what would be otherwise the most reasonable theories -- but the way he writes is one of the really great traits that doesn't translate well into film/tv adaptations.
