ginainthekingsroad: DS9 floats with rainbows (DS9- Deep Space Nyan)

In a weird kinda way, Odo. I liked DS9 a lot when it aired/immediately after, but my initial favorite characters were Jadzia, Bashir, and Kira. I liked Odo because I like mysteries and thus Odo episodes often had mystery/crime plots, which was something I didn't get much in the other Treks. So Odo was unique for that; and I could tell even then that Rene was a very, very talented actor for being so expressive through so much makeup*.

Rewatching the show as an adult, the show is SO full of wonderful characterization. Odo in particular has some great development and such a dark and uncompromising past in association with the Cardassian occupiers on Terok Nor ("Necessary Evil", "Things Past"). And as I mentioned above, a lot of appreciation for Rene's performance- one of my very favorite qualities is an actor who can do a lot with silence/few lines, he certainly does. It's also something I see in Alec Guinness's George Smiley and Michael Kitchen's Christopher Foyle (and though he has never appeared off the page, add SIMON ILLYAN to that category and it's clear to see an archetype emerging...)

*I would also like to give a shoutout to Armin Shimmerman for the same reason and to add that he is an awesome dude and wonderful classical actor- especially his Richard III (which he did last year for two performances with a completely unabridged text.)
