pet trolls in Homestuck. Making a sentient species to pets who are enough to talk in simple english, brrrrrr...
The Homestuck fic with the most Kudos on A03 is in fact the originator of the trend.

I get the appeal is kid fic + furry + fluff + hurt/comfort + pedophilia (well, for most not all of it at one), but it's really puzzling how SJ the fandom is normally. There's little awareness for the racist implication (s. the original fuzzy nation novel, wiping out their culture) and even defenses of BNF who say "well if we found a sentient species like that, we would hold them as pets/children/prostitutes for sure! It's realistic, so it's ok!"

I think most/many of them are supposed to be dystopian. The point is that it's terrible and wrong. And also cute.
