Re: It is not society's job to raise your kids, people

I can't even imagine checking my phone at work when I should be actually working, so that is one of my problems with this. When things were slow at the convenience store where I worked, there was always cleaning and straightening up to do. Another is what a few other peolple have said. You are at work. In a job that has customers around you, rather than being stuck back in an office without customer contact. In that scenario, you should only talk about things that are appropriate for customers to hear. That means no talking of your sex life and no talking about school shootings where a freaking kid might hear you.

I don't have kids (although I am a teacher, so my views are likely colored by that) but if I did, I would be pissed if someone mentioned something as disturbing as a school shooting where my kids could potenially hear it. Especially if, as you say, the news just broke, so it wouldn't be as if I would have known it was a subject that could potentially come up. Sure, it isn't your place to parent someone else's kid, but have a little common respect and decency, especially when you are working in a customer service job!

(Oh and your boss is hardly the last with a "customer is right" attitude. And even if he weren't, why on earth would you ever feel it was okay to tell off a customer? Especially for something like this?)
