I feel awkward about this because my boyfriend frequently refers to me as "lover" or (a bit more often) "beloved", but I also feel like it's frequently awkward in prose. (He uses it primarily because he knows I don't ID as either gender, and "lover" or "beloved" are a better variation than "personfriend", since then people actually know immediately what the relationship is)

idk, I feel like there's definitely contexts where it makes sense. What really bugs me is when it's used either of a non-sexual relationship or of a relationship between a married couple. It bugs me extra-hard because I can't put my finger on why it bugs me so much.
