It's a pronunciation that the show itself uses to set him apart from the other characters. I really don't see the problem people have with others writing this one word phonetically so as to keep that aspect of his characterization.

Evidently Mison just said it as part of his dialog (he's British so pronounced it Leftenant) and the director yelled "Cut!" because he thought it was being pronounced wrong. But after explanations they kept it in and thus a fandom "thing" was born.
