to the waste-of-space from a few days ago who doesn't think he's an adult at 27, i need to know - did you get your girlfriend the pill? I need to know that you fixed your stupidity. or at least part of your stupidity.

Basically: I told him losing his virginity didn't make someone an adult. Two sentence comment. He responded with a lengthy unasked for multiparagraph apologetic for his entire life wherein he said he was a Man but not an Adult despite being 27 because of certain choices he's making.

It was weird. I think calling him a loser is mean, though. He's just someone with a bunch of unresolved issues that he thought sex would somehow fix.

Frankly, it was kinda silly, the both of you. I was surprised it got dragged out so long.

I don't know. The guy will potentially be caring for a human being in nine months. I think his issues become very serious when you take that into account.

Not really. What people say and how they are are two different things. Frankly, nothing he said was that big of a deal, and certainly nothing to freak out over.

Um... probably not? They were going to get the morning after pill. That is pretty fucking reliable. The issue isn't making mistakes, the issue would be not dealing with them. You have a pretty unhealthy attitude, here.

(frozen comment) Re: peter pan loser

(Anonymous) 2013-10-23 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Uhm, only I don't? You're under the impression that he actually went and did it. The guy can't even accept he's an adult, it's not that much of a stretch to think they didn't bother going?

And, I don't personally thing it's an unhealthy attitude to not want someone who isn't at grips with reality to be raising a child.

If he didn't, his girlfriend would. I think someone who doesn't want to be an adult would be so fucking terrified of having a kid they would buy two morning after pills just to be sure.

Yeah, it was. I need to get better at picking my battles.

I stand by the idea that losing virginity = becoming a man/woman is a fucked up idea, though. That idea led me to things I regret when I was younger so it's personal.

And that's understandable but, you know...your personal and his are different, so....
Eh.

:)

He got into a fight with a few people about how he 'wasn't an adult!' and basically he'll be a teenager until he's seventy because "I don't wanna, I don't wanna be an adult, noooo!".

I just pity him, personally. I hope they don't have kids until he accepts reality.

pour yourself some whiskey first, it's pretty pathetic.

Jesus Fucking Christ. I came too late to that thread to make commenting worthwhile, but it seemed pretty damn clear that a handful of people were being bitchy pedants over the OP not feeling like he behaved/lived the way adults are supposed to, not that he literally thought he was not an adult.

But I know. It's way more fun to tear people down for using incorrect terms than it is to acknowledge what they clearly intended.

He...literally said he was a 'grown up teenager' and not an adult.

What part of my comment was hard to understand?

The part where you were bitching about other people supposedly bitching?

(frozen comment) Re: peter pan loser

[personal profile] chardmonster 2013-10-23 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
But he basically literally said he was not an adult.

I should have left him to dig his own overly lengthy hole after that, though.

Yeah? And that was the wrong term for a concept that still seemed pretty clear unless you're being pedantic.

(frozen comment) Re: peter pan loser

[personal profile] chardmonster 2013-10-23 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't trying to be pedantic, though. Just that this guy is intentionally creating a definition of adulthood that doesn't include him so he doesn't have to be an adult. I should have worded things more nicely because this was clearly someone with a lot of issues.
