Imprinting is definitely a thing, but the book/movie version and what happened between you and that guy has nothing to do with what imprinting actually is. SMeyers' version is a silly literary device used very badly. Your situation is infatuation and strong physical attraction. I don't want to downplay what you're feeling because there's not a doubt in my mind that it hurts like hell, but romanticizing it will only make it worse, OP.

You fell in love, it didn't work out. That's okay, and this is a thing that happens to everyone. Though it probably doesn't feel like it at the moment, you won't feel this shitty forever. The non-shitty-feelings will happen faster if you don't cling to the idea that this is some magical force you're helpless to change.
