I think in the real world we call that an infatuation. Or even a crush. Maybe love, but most likely not.

And calling it "imprinting" puts too much pressure on everyone involved. Not to mention it's a bit creepy.

What if they both were familiar with twilight and that's why the op called it imprinting?

You did not imprint on him, as that is a made up idea and if it were true you would have assaulted him when he reject you, which I'm assuming is not the case.

You did fall way hard for someone and now you have a broken heart and that is enough. However, you can and will get over him. Good luck.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-22 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
what does assault have to do anything.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-22 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what happened in the books when the imprinted-on one rejected the imprinter. I think he tore her face off? Then she married him.

Dear OP,

You are not a duckling. You did not "imprint" on anyone. Internet!infatuation guy is not your surrogate daddy. This is not a thing.

Kind regards,

Your Sanity

(Anonymous) 2013-10-22 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You clearly don't get the Twilight reference since you're talking about ducklings.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-22 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-22 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Clearly. ;)

...or maybe I'm making a real-world reference to contrast the fantasy in OP's head. You choose.

I thought duck/ducklings as well. I'm even more glad I never read these books (like I needed more reasons?).

Sounds like a crush, possibly limerence, not "imprinting".

You realize that's not a real thing, right? Obviously you felt an incredible connection with the person, but that doesn't mean you can't ever love someone else.

stop

(Anonymous) 2013-10-22 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Dear god I hope you're like 10 or something. Just...no. No to infinity. Imprinting is not a thing. You did not imprint on this person. You had a crush. You will get over it.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-22 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're saying OP that you a crush and connection so strong it felt like imprinting?

I'm sure there is a better word for it than THAT.

Infatuation?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-23 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
tbh, i think 'crush' covers it. i remember i used to think about my first crush every single day for a few months, in the hopes he would finally notice me.

he moved away and i eventually got over it tho.

Please tell me you're not serious.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-23 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I give you a 3 on the Troll scale of 1-10. Try harder next time.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-23 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Imprinting is definitely a thing, but the book/movie version and what happened between you and that guy has nothing to do with what imprinting actually is. SMeyers' version is a silly literary device used very badly. Your situation is infatuation and strong physical attraction. I don't want to downplay what you're feeling because there's not a doubt in my mind that it hurts like hell, but romanticizing it will only make it worse, OP.

You fell in love, it didn't work out. That's okay, and this is a thing that happens to everyone. Though it probably doesn't feel like it at the moment, you won't feel this shitty forever. The non-shitty-feelings will happen faster if you don't cling to the idea that this is some magical force you're helpless to change.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-23 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
That was the nicest and most comforting response here. I'm not the OP but I wish you so much happiness. You deserve it.
