Re: Anime.

Depends on why you're refusing to watch it. If you're not giving it a chance simply because it's Japanese, then yes, that's kinda racist. If you just don't like the sort of animation/storylines/characters in anime, then no.

I just don't care. What very little bit I've seen and from what's popped up in secrets, I don't like the art, I don't like the way it sounds, maybe there's a good story there, but there are lots of good stories in mediums that don't annoy the everloving out of me. But I guess you could say that boils down to "not liking Japanese style" which is a nicer way of saying "I don't like it because it's Japanese"...

DA. wellllll.....that does kind of make you sound like an asshole.

art is SO varied. you simply can't say you don't like anime style, because there is no one style. and i don't get what you mean by the way it sounds?

ntayrt. Exactly. From decade to decade, different genres and just different artists provide a wide range of art styles in anime. I can't see how you could find every single one intolerable.

I'm guessing they mean the high-pitched voices of the Japanese va's and some dubs. At least I hope so.

NAYRT

Why is it asshole-ish to just...not like something? Like, there are a lot of different types of country music, but no one would think OP was an asshole for posting a blanket "I just don't like country music."

Re: Anime.

Actually, yes, they probably would if OP said it like this. If they said they didn't like country music because it was all about trucks and cowboys and they hated the southern accents, it's doing the same generalization that isn't true and offends people.

What OP should probably say is that they don't like animated shows, but if they do and they just don't like anime...that's really weird.

Not really. You can like Pixar films or whatever and still not like anime.

There is a very big difference in refusing to watch something because you don't like the overall style of the art/characterization/stories and refusing to watch it simply because it's made in Japan. The later is racist.

I do get what you're saying about simply not liking the art, ect. I can not stand the artstyle, layout and typical font and writing/stories of most western comics, but there are a couple I love despite that because the stories are great or they just don't have those annoying things.

You really shouldn't write off all of anime because you don't like the general anime style. Not all the art, ect is like mainstream stuff and there is almost certainly something out there you'd like. It wouldn't hurt to take up a couple suggestions people who know you well make, or just search around for things that are actually to your taste.
