Anime recs, I guess?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-24 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of inspired by the other thread.

Rec your favorite series, talk about them, and stuff.

Cowboy Bebop. <3 And Trigun. <3 And Escaflowne. <3

(Yes, my taste in anime is predictable and boring.)
elaminator: (Cowboy Bebop - Spike)

Predictable maybe, but good!

I'll add Yu Yu Hakusho, Big O, Fullmetal Alchemist (the first series is my favorite) and Tiger and Bunny.

(I'm predictable too.)

I actually gotten into it in the past year or so, but I really like Tsuritama, Nichijou, and Ouran. Hataraku Maou-sama was actually what got me into it, which is basically Satan working at McDonald and a lot better than its premise. Second half isn't as good.

I'm also really liking Kyousogiga so far.

You'll have to give me a better guideline than that, I'm afraid, because I have favorites in most of the genres. :)

My all-time favorite is Samurai 7, though. It's sort of the mecha remake of the movie The Seven Samurai, but it was expanded into 26 beautiful episodes (well, except one episode where they had budget cut problems). It has interesting and dynamic characters, a well-balanced story, and a solid background to draw from.

Samurai 7! I haven't seen that in ages! I'm going to have to dig out my DVDs. What a gorgeous series. <3

I've seen a grand total of two, but I love them both. Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist. Both are long and plotty with great characters and animation. Completely different otherwise, but both really good.

Last Exile, and Last Exile: Fam the Silverwing. I LOVE both series so much. I certainly wouldn't call them perfect, they both have their own flaws. I really love all the characters though.

I'm watching Kyouso Giga(Kyousogiga?) right now. I really love it so far.

Everything by Naoki Urasawa, or based on things by Naoki Urasawa

I feel like I like manga way more than I like anime. Is that weird?

Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gurren Lagann. I also have soft spots for InuYasha and Durarara, although Inuyasha goes on forever.

I have a gigantic soft spot for Tokyo Mew Mew. I'd say 'don't judge me,' but nah. Go ahead and judge me.
pantswarrior: Kotetsu is on a tiger. That is all. (sexay)

I've been meh on pretty much any remotely serious anime I've watched in the last ten-ish years, except Get Backers and Tiger & Bunny. Both have an excellent mix of silly mixed with touching and occasional "OMG DDDDDD:", and casts where I just love everyone because every single person, even the most unlikely (ESPECIALLY the most unlikely), is a gigantic dork once you get to know them. And there's just all kinds of chemistry among the cast, and I don't mean in a romantic way - it's just like, everyone is one big dysfunctional family; even when they're fighting with each other as shonen stuff tends to go, there's still a connection.

For comedy, Azumanga Daioh and Cromartie High have literally made me laugh until I could not breathe, and I haven't even seen all of them yet, just a few episodes.

Princess Tutu. I adore the hell out of it. From the classical music, to the art, to the story.

Cowboy Bebop (I consider it the perfect anime, actually), Hellsing (both series), Gungrave, Ergo Proxy, Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex (the perfect scifi show), Samurai Champloo, and, of course, Gundam motherfucking Wing. Most of them I need to rewatch without my teenage goggles on...and also without Cartoon Network's compulsive censoring. I don't know how much stuff was too much for even Adult Swim to let through. I still haven't seen that gay sex scene in Cowboy Bebop.

Wait, what? What gay sex scene? I don't remember that on my recent rewatch of Cowboy Bebop.

The need to verify inspired me to go looking for it, and now I've finally seen it! Right here: http://youtu.be/oanDg0xVj7Y?t=15m51s

Haha, Adult Swim edited out the guy on the bottom.

Well damn. It's been a month or so since I rewatched it so I guess I forgot. Either that or I wasn't paying much attention.

I prefer manga to anime, so most of my knowledge base and recs are for that. I really love Madoka Magica, though with it's popularity it doesn't feel like too much of a rec.

A lesser known anime I really like is Nijuu Mensou no Musume/The Daughter of Twenty Faces. It's set in the 1950s and stars a young girl who's taken into custody by the world class thief, Twenty Faces, and essentially learns the tricks of his trade and becomes his heir. A couple years pass, they get separated due to plot stuff, and then she's sort of thrown into her own adventures/intrigue and is all around pretty kickass.

ATTACK ON TITAN MOTHERFUCKERS

I have not enjoyed an anime as much as AOT in such a long time. Great art style, excellent music, the animation can be heart-breakingly beautiful in places, and it avoids a lot of the obnoxious anime cliches that normally drive me crazy.

Yesssss. I know it's really overhyped, but it's a great show if you ignore the fandom.

Armin stans have come close to ruining his character for me, but I finally just said fuck it and shut them out and he's back in my top five.

BODACIOUS SPACE PIRATES. You can't go wrong with high school girls that are also space pirate captains. Also space battles and charming crews and lesbians. The soundtrack's really great too, reminds me of .hack//.

If you're looking for something a bit more serious, Darker Than Black kicks all the ass. Espionage and superpowers. So awesome. Just...don't ever watch the second series. Or the 1.5 for that matter. Just stick with the first.
