From the few news reports I saw I felt really bad for the family, because from the photos and everything it seemed obvious that the girl was family. And the whole thing was based on "but she looks different!" and "everyone knows gypsies steal children!" type of thing.

And it doesn't sound like she'll be going back to her family, which is sad. Hopefully she'll at least be able to see them.

To be fair, she did look terrified in one picture, but it might have been when she was caught, not to mention media manipulation. Her hair also appeared to have been dyed, but again, maybe there's something to that too.

I do think buying a baby is pretty dodgy, but it does seem the intent might not have been as bad as people were saying.

And in light of all this, many Romani families are facing discrimination for the appearances of their children - even those who are biologically theirs, if you've been watching the news. It's very sad. I understand concerns for this kind of thing, what with human trafficking and all, but I feel like this requires a degree of delicacy that is not being heeded at all. Accusing a couple of stealing their own fucking baby because they look different is really honestly kinda bullshit.
