Hey, could you upload the show you watched? I'd like to see it!

Seconded.

Possibly going in with lower expectations / no preconceptions made a difference?

Here's hoping that you continue to enjoy (even if as a "guilty pleasure.")

Oh hey, same here. But now I'm behind in the episodes. X_x

But everyone has different tastes. So it goes.

Oh god that's me too. I like the show, but I've been watching too much stuff so I'm completely behind on Agents of SHIELD >

Yea, I've been enjoying it too. I was a bit skeptical after the first episode, though not entirely disheartened because pilots tend to not be the best, but I like it. *shrugs* I wish more people were enjoying it, but people like what they like.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I think sometimes when you go in with low expectations it's better. Part of the problem a lot of fans have, imo, is that there was such high expectations for this series, and there was really no way it could meet a lot of those expectations.

I've been enjoying each new episode more than the last so far, it's working as a series for me and I like the characters. But everyone has different tastes.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it well enough, actually; I think they fall back a little often into referencing MCU stuff, and if they stopped using that as a crutch and let the characters/actors breath a little, it would be a lot better. But as it is, I do enjoy it. It's not perfect, but I think everyone's expectations were a little high and that hurt their perception of it.

Same here, except I watched from the beginning. I'm enjoying the show and have no idea what show all these people who complain about it are watching. Maybe it helped that I had no particular expectations (and frankly don't care that much about superheroes).

+1

I love the show! It's one of those shows that just makes me happy. I find it incredibly entertaining. I think it's really weird when people act like just because they don't like the show, nobody in the world will.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-26 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I quite like the show. Is it always excellent drama? No. But there are parts I have laughed aloud at and I'm actually interested in the character development enough to contemplate fic, which is always I sign I'm enjoying something.

I'm enjoying it, I look forward to new episodes and have fun watching...

I don't put much thought into it though, it is grouped with the other shows I watch purely because they entertain me for 20-50 minutes a week and then I can just not think much about it* before I am watching the next episode.

*baring huge cliffhangers

Going in with low expectations and sticking it out for a few episodes helped me. I enjoy the show, but I'm not going crazy over it.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-27 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear you're enjoying it - I am too. I guess I'm on the other side of this. I wasn't that sure about it from the previews since it looked like a bunch of people with no super powers chasing down those who had them. I wonder if many of the unhappy vocal fans actually paid attention to that - or whether they just had some idea about what they thought it should be, which it isn't.

I also know that there's group of fans who make it their hobby to hate on things just because Joss Wheedon is associated with the project. I guess we can never tell the agenda of people who talk so negatively and yet seem to continue watching. I tend to move on from shows I don't like and forget about them.

I actually think it's a crap show, but I enjoy it anyway

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-10-27 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
But I'm a Merlin fan, and if I could stick around for THAT nonsense, I can enjoy ANYTHING no matter how horrible it is. Except reality TV.

*shrugs*

That said, while the show tends to really suck in some ways, it does well in other areas, so it might just be that the former are things you tend to not notice or care about while you focus on the latter.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-27 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Are you watching the show that is made up of (left to right)

An annoyingly perfect mary-sue "I'm so great I can computing and stuff. Whedon is such a great feminist for creating me guys!!!1"

A british bimbo who is far more 'underwear model' than 'science geek' "How do I science? Oh, just stand here and look pretty? Ok"

A Scottish rehash of Zander. I am strangely ok with this.

Mr Boring McEmotionless "The fans wanted me back. Did I mention I was in the film?"

A woman who should be awesome asskicker, but is instead an actual Asian Kungfu Master. I mean jesus did whedon really just go BACKWARDS in terms of his boring overused stereotypes? Is the 1970's new again?

and a man who is so cliché 'typical boring white male hero' material, if AOS was a videogame he would be voiced by Nolan north.

Is that the show you're watching and are happy to continue to watch?

I'm with you, anon, although I've been with it since day one and loving it.

People have different tastes, and that's not a bad thing. Just keep on keeping on and know you're not alone. :)

I've enjoyed it so far. However, there are some racial issues :/

(Anonymous) 2013-10-27 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I've been finding its improving for me. However, I don't think it's a show I can be passionate about, but I'll still watch it.

Can't stand the British pair - they seem ready made to be cute for a USian audience. So quaint! Ugh.

Agent Ward is as interesting as a rock.

Skye is Faith take 2 and I find her struggles and tics uninteresting.

Melinda seems okay, but I wish we'd see a bit more of her. Also, I feel she might be falling into some tropes about Asian ninja women and ice queens. Please let us see some more nuance.

Coulson's okay I guess.

Some of the villains seem stereotypical in uncomfortable ways. And the comments about Rising Tide idealists have me rolling my eyes at the clumsiness.

I'm mostly watching it for the plot and cool tech and the last couple of episodes weren't bad for that.

[personal profile] solarbird 2013-10-27 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been improving quite a bit as it goes, and the last two episodes have been really quite solid. I'm almost to the point where I'd be willing to let Specialist Truthserum die without tremendous, excruciating pain.

And it also just became one of those "we need constant endemic pervasive surveillance and there's no time for the luxury of rights and due process, we'll just imprison people forever without trial if we want to because IT'S IMPORTANT!" post-9/11 shows - they even mocked the idea of due process and rights explicitly in the script. And our 'subversive' information-should-be-free/people-have-a-right-to-know character has Learned Her Lesson and now knows How Important Secrecy And All This Stuff Is, and the character who didn't go that way has been discredited as a fraud who also Learned Better but Sold Out In The Wrong Way.

So, yeah. It's become the show I really kind of expected it to become, and really didn't want it to become, so I'm done with it.
