How about Anne McCaffery - The Ship Who Sang series

I know Elizabeth Moon has written both sci-fi and fantasy, the Vatta's War series is more sci-fi.

Has she read A Wrinkle in Time? That is fantasy but has a lot of the sciencey angle too, if that's something she likes.

Hmm. I know I've read more, because my own preferences are fantasy with a bit of sci-fi, not a really big fan of strict heavier sci-fi stuff, but I'm drawing a blank.
