I have found that the longer I'm in fandom, the more often I skip the sex scenes in fanfic. I hosted an informal discussion about that on my journal several years ago and discovered that I was not alone and that many of the people on my friends list also routinely skipped reading sex scenes. For me, when I first got into fandom, I had never read erotica of that nature and so the sex scenes were a big draw to me because they were novel. Ten years later, it's not new to me anymore, and I'm more interested in plot and story than anything else.
