Re: So I have this problem with a fic author vs her fic...

Because religion is generally wrong, as far as the issue of homosexuality is concerned. The reason why it looks hypocritical is because if you don't hate gay people and don't want to discriminate against them, why draw the line at slash? I'd bet good money that your religion says absolutely nothing about slash. In fact, I bet that if your religion addresses the topic at all, it's very much specifically about gay people. Not gay fiction.

So if you're willing to go against your religion on the subject of homosexuality and homosexual people, why use religion as an excuse for being against slash?

How is it discriminating against gay people to not read or write slash? and my religion doesn't condemn gay PEOPLE at all, just homosexual ACTS. I'm not 'going against my religion' because my religion never told me to discriminate against gay people. I'm not going around denouncing people for writing slash any more than I'm going around denouncing people for wanting buttsex.

besides, it's not like I'm using religion as an 'excuse' for being against slash. since when does someone need an excuse to be permitted to not like slash, anyway? If I was just like 'nah bro it doesn't turn me on' people would be all 'oh that's cool ykanmk'.

I dunno, I think there's quite a difference between "I'm not interested in slash pairs" and "I believe that homosexuality is a sin."

One is understandably an issue of preference. The other is the reason I can be legally executed in some countries.

well, I believe in separation of church and state...so I think I shouldn't be arrested because I think homosexuality is a sin and there shouldn't be any legal consequences of you being homosexual. I also believe adultery is a sin, but that certainly doesn't mean I think anyone has a right to execute adulterers!

That's great. Thing is, you're not the one getting the threat of execution.

And there are some countries where I will receive the threat of execution or torture if I practice my religious beliefs. If we tot up individual lists of countries that want us dead, and my list is longer than yours, would that legitimize me?

While I think that torturing or threatening people based on their religion is unspeakably awful, I would like to point out that religion is a choice, and homosexuality is not. So even though both forms of governmental persecution are disgusting, there's still a fundamental difference between them that makes comparing them not really work.
