Warning: TMI about skin problems

(Anonymous) 2013-10-28 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone here have Psoriasis? I've had it since I was a child. Mostly it lingers around the scalp and my feet. It comes and goes but when it comes, it's a horror. I've tried many lotions but nothing has kept it at permanent bay.

If you have it, what do you do for it? What triggers yours? Mine seems to get worse when I go without sleep, eat chocolate and/or use shampoo with sulfates.

I don't know if what I have is actually psoriasis. But I do have some weird skin thing that is mostly on my face (particularly the bridge of my nose). It is sort of scaly, dry skin. I suffered from it for 23 years then my sister found a solution.

A $4 bottle of dandruff shampoo from Walmart. It lasts me months. It has to have coal tar topical solution. I put it on my face for about minute every day when I shower. Cleared my problem right up (as long as I use it). Just don't get in eyes!

This is what I use. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Therapeutic-Shampoo-8.5-Fl-Oz/10533841

i have a patch on the back of my neck, up in my hair. usually it's either stress or heat/sweating that makes it itch. i use a fancy coal shampoo as well when needed although most of the time i just don't bother to do anything with it. ive learned to endure, or i say fuck it and scratch until it's gross and oozing heh.

I don't personally have it but have family who does. The dermatologist's treatment was with cortisone and UV sessions. Apparently the sea air was also very beneficial. However, you can manage it but you can't make it disappear for ever.

I have psoriasis, but it's been in remission for like 20 years. It was really bad when I was in elementary school. I had large plaques all over my arms and legs. Doctors gave me some kind of topical cream but it didn't work. Then one summer I spent a lot of time outside in the sun and by the end of the summer they had mostly gone away. I also don't eat chocolate, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Although it's pretty much stayed in remission since then I do get the occasional plaque still, but they're usually out of sight on my scalp or butt, and I don't really mind them.

Sorry I can't give better advice.

My aunt has severe psoriasis (like, all over her body except her face), and the only thing that works for her is this special moisturizer called Udder Balm.

I've read about it lots online to try and find weird ways to help her out and the general consensus is SUN, SUN, and lots of SUN. It's unfortunate since people with bad psoriasis don't really want to head to the beach and strip off their clothes but it really is the best cure.

Coal tar shampoo.

The longer my hair gets, the worse it gets on my scalp, I think because exposure to sun helps it and the longer damp hair is on it makes it worse.

Mine gets worse in summer, it's mostly on my scalp/back of neck/in my ears. gets triggered by hot weather/dryness/lack of sleep/stress

I use sebitar 2-3 times a week and it seems to help the longer i let it soak. smells tho
