Chess is actually pretty amazing, and is far more about social and political and war-specific issues with Russia, America, etc. It's also a love story but kind of one that's meant not to be admired, just tragic.

True, I'm reading the responses and wonder what rock people have been living under since the concept album put "Bangkok" on heavy radio rotation in '84.

I think I see your problem.

No but seriously Chess is awesome but it was never HUGELY popular (the song was, not the musical - I know a bunch of people who like that song and have no clue where it's from) and it was almost 30 years ago. That might be a few years before a lot of people here were even born.

Yeah, I stand corrected. I guess I assumed it was one of those random things someone decided to make a musical out of, not something actually pretty serious and deep.

If you can, definitely check it out sometime. If you can't see the whole musical at least listen to the music. It conveys the story and its power even without the visual context.
