It's neat that Texas was so enlightened more than a century ago, but the reason why people expect them to be backward assholes about women's rights is because they're behaving that way now. I'm not sure I'd like that about Texas because the possibility that peoples' attitudes about feminism have regressed over time seems kind of... well, not very likeable.

*ACUTALLY* the *people* haven't really. The government has - and believe me, in Texas there is a huge difference between the two.
