(Anonymous) 2013-10-29 02:49 am (UTC)(link)I guess if I had to pick something...I guess how we have a habit of being just different than people expect. Like...for example, Texas was actually the first state to ratify the 19th amendment [AKA: Give women the right to vote], and was actually totally okay with women doing stuff like riding with the Texas Rangers in the mid-late 1800's [Basically women serving with the Texas army - and *not* as camp followers.]
Just how we have a habit having that and a the ton of other stuff we have like that.

Even once the area grew in population, they were still out on a huge farm, so their "new neighbors" were nonetheless miles away.
