I don't know whether or to what extent sexism is an issue in this, but I wish people would stop getting so bent out of shape about anyone liking Lalaurie or Capone or whatever unsavory historical person comes to mind when they're characters in a fictional show/movie. These are not the real people. And these aren't documentaries. Yes, they may be based (to varying degrees and with varying accuracy) on real people, but their lines and stories are being written. By writers. For entertainment purposes.

If you like Kathy Bates' Lalaurie, you are not condoning the actions or beliefs of the real person. Maybe you like Kathy Bates. Or how she's written which, to date, has been with a number of non-threatening comic undertones you certainly wouldn't associate with the real person. You can do that and still hate the real person because they're not the same. One is real and one has been removed from reality to the point that she's become more fictional than real. To me, liking Bates' Lalaurie is no different from liking Lange's Fiona because they're both characters in a show whose purpose is not historical accuracy.
