worth it or not? Dunno if I should go with my friend to see it since IMAX is expensive :\

Okay, waste your money then.

I'm curious, why did you think it was an awful movie? Was it missing something you wanted to see or did you have a problem with the acting or was it something else?

I'm just really curious because while I know people who aren't interested to see it, I don't know anyone who's seen it who didn't like it.

I wasn't interested in seeing it to begin with, but people kept telling me it was excellent, so I went and hoped to be wowed.

I was bored to tears and didn't really care if the characters lived or died. I just wanted something exciting to happen. It was pretty to look at, but it was an hour and a half of "Should I just walk out or should I stay because I paid $30 to see this?". I stayed, but in the end I felt like there was a lot of buildup and very little reward. I've never considered leaving a movie early before, and I've seen some bad ones.

DA: where the fuck do you pay $30 to see one movie??? I hope that included food, wtf.

ayrt

1 ticket + 3D glasses, 1 popcorn, 1 drink = $27 and some change, I think

1 popcorn, 1 drink

There's your problem. For goodness sake, don't ever by snacks at a movie theater unless it's an art house place that really needs the money or a budget theater that's already cheaper anyway. Go out to eat after the movie.

Some people like to snack while watching a movie. Deal with it.

I think it's a movie that people who aren't really interested in going should avoid. I loved it but I can see why someone else wouldn't. It isn't a movie for casual viewers (meaning people who are just along with friends or going just because they have nothing better to do).

Really? It seems like the best movie for that. But you have to be interested in special effects and space stuff.

OP

I'm sorry you feel that way. I just finished watching it in imax and it was amazing!

To me nothing is worth IMAX prices. Everything I have ever seen in it(with discount or won tickets) I said even though they were good I wouldn't pay full price to see it.

It was AWESOME. We saw it in 3D but not Imax.

DEFINITELY SEE IT IN 3D! They're using depth of field to great effect and it'd really lose something without it.

As for Imax, it's probably very awesome but 3D is the most important thing. I've never seen an Imax movie that wasn't a documentary on one of the curved screens in a science museum, so I'm not entirely sure what the experience is like for a normal film.

But seriously: it was great. Apparently Sandra Bullock, like Kate Mulgrew, is one of those people who really can act well if someone gives them a good script.

It was totally worth it! But if you or your friend ever get motion sickness or dizzy spells, I suggest skipping the IMAX version.

I enjoyed it moreorless. Looked great in 3D but there was quite a few ~symbolic~ bits shoehorned in which were too obvious (aka I noticed the symbolism straight away)

But the 3D worked really well

Late, but I wanted to weigh in.

Awful movie, if you consider the way it handled the themes it wanted to convey, very anvil-y, if you know what I mean. Subtle it is not, too in your face for me.

It really saved itself when it comes to special effects and fantastic visuals, one of the best things I have ever seen tbh. I forgot how much I didn't like for a whole hour after the movie, then I realized that I had been hypnotized by the effects.

Also, Clooney is a nicely developed character all around, very in character. I can't stand Bullock, but she was a bit better on this one, apart from 2 or 3 scenes I just want to obliterate from my brain.

Advice: go see it on the big screen, DO NOT watch it at home. You need the 3D for this one.
