Question for people who watch The Big Bang Theory

(Anonymous) 2013-10-29 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
What's going on with Sheldon these days? Or more specifically, what's the state of his relationship with Amy? Are they dating/sleeping together? The last time I watched he was insisting they were just friends but I got the feeling the writers were eventually going to take it in a sexual direction and "Sheldon gets a girlfriend and turns into Leonard" didn't exactly appeal to me and was the main reason I haven't watched in a long time. I sort of want to catch up on the show but I'm not sure how I feel about it if they gave Sheldon a girlfriend. Any thoughts?

Yes Amy and Sheldon are dating, and I think they may actually be having sex.

Yes to dating, they have kissed like twice, and no sex yet...

Sheldon mentioned once that he is trying to be more intimate, but that it will take him time and that he might never get there or something along those lines.

did that answer your question? If not I am the resident TBBT fan and I will try to answer more precisely if you want to

Dating, but it's frustrating to watch. Cause he's a HORRIBLE boyfriend to her and she turned into this sex obsessed woman who's trying to force him into it when he CLEARLY doesn't want to.

Though the episode that cemented my hate of that ship was when Amy tried her damnedest to force Sheldon out of his quirks for completing things. He was SO angry with her in that episode that when she finally left, he finished EVERYTHING she didn't let him finish said some rather mean things about her behind her back.

I can't stand it, personally. If I were a Shamy fan, I'd be ashamed.

Ugh.

I haven't seen any of the current season (and maybe the last 1 or 2 of last season? I can't remember) but that's exactly why. They're SO not right for each other and I hated watching the way they treated each other. Sounds like I made the right decision to stop watching.

Amy wasn't trying to "force Sheldon to out of his quirks". She was trying to help him by desensitizing him to lack of closure -- which previously had caused him severe mental distress, which is clearly part of his raging OCD. If it had worked his life would have been far better for it.

You make it sound like she was attempting to torture him into being a better boyfriend.

Unless they'd talked about it beforehand and he'd agreed to her "desensitising" him, it's not good that she was doing it, even if her motivations were to help. Desensitisation can backfire horrendously, which is why it's best started with a professional rather than your significant other doing it without your input or consent.

This. And it clearly backfired.

He did agree.

Well, CLEARLY, she caused him far MORE mental distress by forcing him to being that he is not.

He may have OCD, but it's clearly not affecting him badly cause he goes on just the same and happily for it.

And she was, there's no denying it at all. She was trying to change who he was, which, for him, was torture. He was angry at her, not his quirk. HER.

I hate and love that episode because of how he felt about the whole situation and her.

But it isn't him that she's working with, it's his disease. He is not his disease, even though he's lived with it so long that it seems that way. Leonard has commented that it's hell inside Sheldon's brain and he agrees.

Sheldon's anger at Amy was the anger of a child lashing out at a parent who was administering a medicine he doesn't like the taste of.

They're dating but what no one has mentioned so far is that they had a relationship agreement. I haven't seen any of this season yet but at least up until the last season finale they kept Sheldon totally in character. It's actually the main reason I kept watching because everything else on the show was either overdone or just didn't appeal to me.

It's pretty much the same this season thus far. They're dating, have a 'relationship agreement,' Amy totally lusts for more physical contact, the most I've seen them do is.. hold hands. I missed a couple eps, though.

Thanks everybody who replied. From what you all have said I don't think I'll bother catching up with the show.
