Last night when I was closing a department of our store I was doing recovery in our seasonal aisle. A mother with a cute, doe-eyed five year old daughter were trying to pick out the little girl's Halloween costume. We have a very small selection, about half of one side of an aisle and it's pretty exclusively "boy" costumes. The selection for girls is *literally* four princess dresses, cheap wigs and hair spray, and miscellaneous princess/fairy accessories.

The little girl selected a Spiderman costume and as I was working I kept hearing the mother try and convince the little girl to get another costume, her reasoning being that it came with a coupon for a free toy. I felt a little exasperated as I'd witnessed mothers pressure their reluctant daughters into choosing one of the four princess dresses all day. But when I glanced over the mother was holding up a slightly more expensive version of the Spiderman costume. Mom, trying to entice her daughter, repeated this one came with a free action figure and pointed out it had muscles sewn in.

The little girl, decidedly unimpressed, informed her mother "I don't want that one, if I wear that one no one will see my muscles."

I pulled Miss Spiderman an action figure with damaged packaging from the back for that one. :D

Not really a cute story, all of the little girls I know are being something other than the stereotypical princess, which I think is pretty awesome. One, who's about 7, decided she wanted to be a "half raccoon-half human"...her mom has no idea where she came up with that one, lol.

Hee. That sounds like the year my daughter wanted to be a fire bat. So I made a fire bat costume like you do.

Awww that's adorable.

I usually had cute handmade costumes. My grandmother made me a Wizard of Oz dress, an Alice in Wonderland dress, and Belle's ballgown. Then I grew out of dresses and decided I was going to be a construction worker several years in a row because then it meant I'd get new workboots!

That is adorable. One year, when we were kids, my little sister was determined to dress up for Wolverine, fake muscles and all. I'm pretty sure my Mom still has the photos somewhere.

I gave you a very quiet squeal, so to not wake my roommate. This is adorable -- especially the "my muscles" part! And you rock for doing that.

Well, shucks! It wasn't that big of a deal, after shelfedge (people responsible for markdowns) heard that story and my employee discount it ended up costing me literal pocket change. :)
