Like others have said, she was in IM2 and is a badass character, so they brought her into Avengers.

I always think that one lady is better than none. Yes, the Avengers needs more women, but it sounds like there will be more female presence in A2. So that's good.

Don't hate 'cause she's the lone female character. Be disappointed if you want, 'cause there weren't more.

Yeah, my problem is all the people hating on Black Widow for supposedly "feminist" reasons, and they're often dudes too - calling her "token" or "just eye candy" and I'm like

I'm happy she was a well-rounded female character. She was great! Let's have more female characters! Let's have a female character-led movie next time! Let's have a female character team-up movie next time!

Yes to all of this! I'd start crying if there was a female superhero team movie. It would be so kick ass and amazing if done by the right people.

She was the only female Avenger, but not the only female character.

Or do Maria Hill and Pepper Potts not count? They were supporting parts, yes, but they were there.

I meant as an Avenger, not just a female character. Pepper also didn't do anything in the Avengers movie. I was happy that she had more of an active role in IM3, however :)
