Why do people object to buying things? I'm not trying to be insulting I really don't understand this need to avoid it (barring expense or lack of availability in your country - those factors I understand).

Expense or lack of availability are two of the biggest factors.
Convenience is another.

I guess maybe some people do it out of political motives, like sticking it to the man or something? IDK.

I generally buy things, but I still want a digital copy for making music videos or for watching on a device that doesn't have a disc drive. Unfortunately, official digital copies tend to be a huge hassle, take up a lot of space, often expire or require regular licensing updates, can't be used in music videos, or can only be viewed on one device and fritz out if you try to move or copy them. It's very annoying.

It's a combination of expense, availability, and convenience, like the other anon said. I use whatever gives me easy access to entertainment, whether it's paying or not. I use Youtube, Netflix, Hulu, and Steam for most of my media needs because they're easier than taking a chance with torrents; when torrents are the easiest option, I do that instead. So I don't object to buying things, I object to difficulty.

Where I live, the only things available to even buy are bootlegs other people pirated. Might as well do it yourself and not support commercialization.

OP

Money. I don't object to buying things on principal, when I was employed, I would be dropping about £100 a month in my local comic book shop, but now, I'd have to save up for a month just to buy one comic that I would finish that same day.

Anime is more expensive than crack as well.

The only thing I really miss is being able to buy books. I liked having a solid copy of a book to read, but needs must, so for the last few months I've been getting hookie copies of audiobooks instead.

Without the internet and those noble pirates I would have a very hollow empty life.
