Yes, and it was awful. From what I remember, anyways. It was a loooong time ago. I mainly just remember being angry for ages afterwards about how they completely wrote Pendergast out, which seems all the stupider now that I realize he's a reoccuring character. I think I must have driven my mom crazy with my upset ranting. 8D

Man, I don't know where to begin with the books. I want to read through them all right now, but I'm right smack in the middle of plowing my way through the Discworld novels. aargh.

How in blazes can they write Pendergast out, anyway? It seems to be he was a big factor in stopping all those murders! Ah, Hollywood, the mind boggles 8D And movie adaptations usually pale in comparison to the joys of using my own imagination, anyway, but that's just me.

Do you mean you're unsure of the order they're supposed to be read in? If that's the case, I'd gladly help out! Ahh, and you've reminded me that the Discworld series has been on my "to read" list far too long! Must go take care of that ASAP~

I know! It's crazy! He's too important for them to just pretend he doesn't exist! Arghgh. Oh, the painful memories. I felt so betrayed. XD

I found some lists of what order the books go in, but my impatientness makes me to want to skip straight to the good (Pendergast) stuff. :x I'm just not sure where that is. XD Should I just go straight in order, or are there any in particular you recommend (past "The Relic?")

I've only worked through half a dozen or so Discworld books so far, but I'm really enjoying them. Though I fear they may be spoiling me towards non-Pratchett authors. I recommend starting with "Guards, Guards" if you want to just jump in; it's the first in the City Watch series, which you'll probably like if you enjoy murder and crime mysteries with fantasy-slants to them. :D

Let's see... The very first Pendergast book I ever read was The Cabinet of Curiosities, then Still Life With Crows, and it was only then I realized the existence of Relic and the subsequent novel Reliquary. Cabinet of Curiosities is certainly exciting and has the lovely bonus of featuring Pendergast as the protaganist, but Reliquary's also a viable choice if you're a stickler for keeping timelines and such in order. CoC and other such novels taking place after Reliquary shouldn't spoil its plot in case you decide to go back and read it later (like I did!).

If you're really impatient and want to get to the best stuff (in my humble opinion, anyway), you could skip ahead to the "Diogenes Trilogy" books, which are Brimstone/Dance of Death/The Book of the Dead, in that order. Although, in that case, missing out on Cabinet of Curiosities (and to a lesser extent, Still Life with Crows) beforehand will probably leave some plot gaps in your memory.

Whoo, that was long, sorry 8D; I hardly ever get to ramble about books, these ones in particular, so I get a little excited sometimes!

And thanks so much for pointing out "Guards, Guards"! I'll definetly look into that one; mysteries and such with fantasy elements are indeed right up my alley :D

Oh, good, I was sort of looking at Cabinet of Curiosities to read first. :) I'm glad that's not an unreasonable choice. :D Though those Diogenes books are mighty tempting, as well. Hmm. Well, if I can be good and patiently read the City Watch Discworld series in order (rather the jump straight to the most popular ones) I can be good and try to sort of go in order with these, too. 8D

I don't get to ramble about my books, either. It sucks. Only occasionally do I read things that other people have heard of (why are there so few Chrestomanci fans!?), so I take any opportunity to geek out when I can. :D

Out of all the Discworld books, I've definitely been enjoying the City Watch series best. The next two, Men at Arms and Feet of Clay were excellent reads (especially the latter ( I think you'll like them. :D

(whoops, forgive the lateness of my reply!)

I hope you enjoy whichever book you end up reading first! :) The world is in dire need of more Pendergast fans. It's awfully disconcerting when one feels all alone in a fandom, be it book or otherwise XD And hurray for book geeking-out! Not enough of that in the world, I say.

Again, I can't thank you enough for the recs! Mr. Pratchett's works are especially high on my to-read list at the moment after reading (and loving dearly) his joint work with Mr. Gaiman, Good Omens, so now I've got an idea of where to start! Good heavens there are a lot of Discworld books, yipes 8D
