shaking after a workout?

[personal profile] shinyhappypanic 2013-10-31 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I just got back from the gym (I'm on the floor with my laptop pre-shower haha) and I just realized that I'm shaking. not like shivering but..almost like my whole body is throbbing. I go to the gym five days a week and I didn't do anything more strenuous than usual.

has anyone ever experienced this and is it normal? google didn't give me too much as most accounts I found were people who went too hard. any ideas FS?

I have had that happen a few times, to the point where I couldn't lift my hand above waist-height and still keep it even remotely steady. Generally does mean you pushed yourself WAY too hard somehow and need to just sit and chill for the rest of the day, or at least a few hours. Maybe you've been doing too much regularly and it caught up with you? Or your body might be fighting something off, and therefore today just doesn't have the energy it usually does.

Either way, if your body's giving you a signal like that, better listen to it.

Yeah, I've had that happen. Either because I pushed a workout too far or because my body just didn't have the right amounts of water/food/something. Basically it's just your body telling you you need to rest a bit.

I think it's just one of those weird body things. Kind of like how your arm can get sort of quivery and twitchy when you've been holding something heavy for a while.

And it could also be a bit of harmless sweating-related nerve conduction weirdness. Some water/sodium/potassium should help if that's the case.

Could be low blood sugar.

Oh sure. Usually this is how I know I've pushed myself past my previous comfort level. Used to be when I would run 3 miles everyday, my legs and lower back would shake and tremble afterwards, especially if I held them in a stress position.

Make sure to drink plenty of fluid, and eat a little something before, so it won't be so taxing when you're done.

Second the suggestion that it might be low blood sugar. I try to eat something healthy and filling an hour before my workout. Not a full meal, just a substantial snack like a small portion of trail mix, or something with lean protein/whole grains. It helps with energy levels during a workout level regardless, and I never have that shaky feeling afterwards when I do it.
