Wait, why?

We get groups of teens (not in costume) who try and get candy.

Oh that's stupid as fuck. At least the teens here try really hard with their costumes.

I thought you were like a teacher I had in high school. She would give out candy until she found her first teen (always in costume), would tell them they were too old to trick-or-treat, and closed the door in their face. Then she would turn off the lights and not give out candy for the rest of the night. She was astounded when our whole class said we trick-or-treated and told her she was mean for doing that to the kid.

But you don't do that and the kids aren't even dressing up so nevermind.

No, when teens come up wearing normal clothes we tell them, "We are saving candy for the kids." Last year some drunk girl whined at us for about 5 minutes because we would not give her candy. I gotta prioritize my candy, I ain't got an unlimited amount.

Ah. We've never gotten that at my house. That's got to be annoying.

Wow. I have never had that happen. I completely understand where you're coming from.

We are a small town, I expect they don't have much else to do. We did have some come up last year towards the last 15 minutes or so of trick-r-treating. They were very polite and we ended up giving them candy because the night was almost over.

I have this awesome dress, black chiffon with beads over a nude sheath, that a friend got me. I put that on and my huge, pointy witch hat and give out candy at my mom's house (when she lived there). The dress kinda...looks like i'm naked under it, if you wanna go there.

A few years ago, a couple young-teen kids came to the door and i gave them candy and they *staaaaared*. Then they left. A half hour later, they were back with about eight friends, who all got candy and staaaaaaaared.

As they were leaving, i heard them going 'See? see? I told you! Did you see?!!!' I about died laughing.

You gave them the show of their young lives!

Without actually showing them anything!

No. I think just that fact that skin-colored ...whatever could be seen under the black of the dress got them all...confused.

...surprised you haven't been TPed or egged over that. We would have, back in the day. That was when I was living in a rougher area though.

Does anyone actually still do that? I lived in a shitty part of town for most of my childhood/adolescence and I never saw or heard of anyone ever TP'ing or egging anyone's place.

IDK I saw a few trees TPed in my day, and there were rumours that a hated teacher's (expensive) car got egged one year. We lived way far outside of town at the time, so didn't have to deal with any of it.

We have the same problem; add it to the fact that we live in a rough area with a high level of teen gang activity, and it all makes you pretty reluctant to open your door to rough-looking teens who are basically begging.

It's different if they're with kids or they've at least made the effort of an actual costume, but we've been getting fewer and fewer of the neighbourhood kids - who are adorable - and more of these types: they basically see an opportunity for free stuff (and I've heard them say that), grab selfish amounts of sweets, then look shifty on your doorstep, trying to get a look into your house to see if you've got anything worth stealing. Really not fun.
