Shipping doesn't necessarily mean smut.

Smut doesn't necessarily mean loads of descriptions of buttholes or vaginas or breasts or whatnot.

And not everyone can ONLY read smut of people they are sexually attracted to. Lots of people (dare I say most?) can and do put themselves in the shoes of the character of their own gender and get off to it. The number of straight women who read Fifty Shades, for example.
