Re: Things everyone should know how to do

Be able to cook basic things. If you need me to teach you how to make scrambled eggs or steamed vegetables, I'm going to be wondering where the hell your parents were instead of teaching you these simple tasks.

Same thing with being able to sew simple repairs, like a ripped item or a button. EVERYONE should be able to do this. It's so easy to learn and you don't need to pay anyone to do it.

Also you need to be able to do your laundry, write a check, pay your bills, fill out a job application, and by 25 be able to know your liquor limits (if you've been drinking since 21 or younger). The latter one depends I guess, because peer pressure can be a factor in someone drinking more than they can handle. But if you are a grown ass man at a small family gathering, I am going to judge you if you barf on the carpet because you don't know when to quit.

It both amazes, terrifies and disgusts me how many people are unable to know when to stop drinking. My parents had friends for dinner, a couple, both well over 50 - close to 60. They were so fucking drunk that my mother had to drive them home even though they only live about three streets away because she was afraid they'd fall and injure themselves.
Problem is, once your over that one critical point, you don't really have that control about your drinking anymore. But how someone with such a long history of drinking and parties is unable to know when to stop before they reach that point I will never understand.

What disturbs me is the number of people who seem to think it's their god-given RIGHT to get blitzed out of their minds, and that it's the responsibility of everybody around them to make sure they don't get into any trouble and/or clean up after them when they have chosen to surrender their faculties. Um, NO.
